Visit to Conguillío National Park
The Conguillío National Park is one of our favourites in Chile. We have been visiting it many times, the last time just after New Year this year. We stayed again at the Sendas Lodge Conguillío – this time in the Tolhuaca cabin beautifully located in the middle of an Araucaria forest.

After more than 25 years of travelling in Chile and not having seen a single puma, we decided to join a puma-tracking expedition in the Torres del Paine National Park and the adjacent Estancia Goic in the Chilean Patagonia known to host the largest population of pumas in South America.

Taking the opportunity of the Republic of Ireland hosting the first ESO Council meeting after Ireland became the 16th member state of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) we visited the Irish capital Dublin over a long weekend in early June followed by an 11 day and 2700 km roundtrip through Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Safari through Northern Tanzania
After our first trip to Southern Africa in 2012 we always wanted to explore another part of Africa. Our choice fell on Tanzania not least because of the famous Serengeti National Park with whose pictures and documentaries we grew up and which shaped our picture of Africa. In February we traveled for 19 days with our guide Sebastian and spent 2750 km in our reliable Land Cruiser exploring Northern Tanzania between Mkomazi National Park to the East and Lake Victoria to the West.
Christmas and New Year in the Araucanía region
This year we spent Christmas in the Conguillío National Park and New Year in the Huerquehue National Park in the Araucanía region in the South of Chile. In both places we staid in a cabin right in the park. This allowed us to extensively explore both parks by foot and car while enjoying the comfort of a cabin in the middle of nature. The cabin in the Conguillío park was located in a beautiful forest of Araucaria trees close to the Conguillío lake and with a view of the Llaima volcano from the terrace. The cabin in the Huerquehue park was located in a dense forest of Southern Beech trees and within a 5-minutes walk to our private beach at the Tinquilco lake.
Have a look at some impressions from both parks in this picture gallery and these panoramas.
We wish you all the best for a Happy New Year 2019.
Visits to LIGO and FAST
Just published two picture galleries from recent visits to the LIGO Livingston Gravational Wave Observatory in Louisiana, USA and to the FAST 500m Radio Telescope in Guizhou, China. During both trips we were able to visit some of the surroundings. Enjoy!
Sailing the channels of Patagonia with the S/Y Anne-Margaretha
The only way to explore the channels, fjords and islands of western Patagonia is by sea. This (southern) autumn we sailed in 25 days 1629 nautical miles (3017 km) from Ushuaia in Argentina to Puerto Montt in Chile with the S/Y Anne-Margaretha.
